Txema Muñoz

About

Txema Muñoz, also known as TxemArt, unfolds a practice in which the body, material, and image are subjected to processes of alteration, erosion, and reconfiguration. Working across painting, drawing, printmaking, photography, and graphic design, his work resists fixed forms and instead develops through gesture, time, and the instability of matter.

He studied Fine Arts at the Complutense University of Madrid, where he later served as student representative on the Faculty Council and was appointed honorary lecturer in Drawing and Printmaking. His teaching practice also includes scenography at the Complutense Theatre Workshop and drawing courses at the Madrid Ill correctional facility in Valdemoro.

Based in Brussels since 1996, he has developed an extensive exhibition practice, presenting work both in institutional contexts – including the European Commission and the European Parlament – and in independent art spaces. Recent exhibitions include ARTborisations (2025) and The Shape-Shifting Woman (Art Base, Brussels, 2026). Earlier projects include participation in the group exhibition Transforming (Martin’s Atelier, Brussels, 2020), where he presented You Can’t See the Forest for the Trees. His work was also featured in From Mammoth Hair to the Cyclops’ Eye at the Institute of Zoology in Liège, where he received first prize in the exhibition’s drawing competition in 2018.

Alongside his artistic practice, Muñoz has developed a parallel body of work in graphic design. He worked at theDirectorate-General for Comunication of the European Parliament (2011-2014) and, since 2004, has served as president and head of visual identity of the non-profit association Hispagenda. His design work includes posters, visualidentities, publications, and editorial projects for institutions, associations, and cultural initiatives.

Transformation is not represented in his work; it takes place within it.
