About
Txema Muñoz’s work unfolds as a field of transformation in which the body, material, and image are subjected to processes of alteration, erosion, and reconfiguration. Working across painting, drawing, printmaking, photography, and graphic design, his practice resists fixed forms and instead develops through gesture, time, and the instability of matter.
He studied Fine Arts at the Complutense University of Madrid, where he later served as a student representative on the Faculty Council and was appointed honorary lecturer in Drawing and Printmaking. His teaching practice also includes scenography at the Complutense Theatre Workshop and drawing at the Madrid III correctional facility in Valdemoro.
Based in Brussels since 1996, he has developed a sustained exhibition activity, with presentations in institutions such as the European Commission and the European Parliament, as well as in independent spaces. Notable recent exhibitions include ARTborisations (2025) and The Shape-Shifting Woman (Art Base, Brussels, 2026). Earlier, he participated in the group exhibition Transforming (Martin’s Atelier, Brussels, 2020), where he presented his project You Can’t See the Forest for the Trees. His work was also featured in the exhibition From Mammoth Hair to the Cyclops’ Eye at the Institute of Zoology in Liège, where he was awarded first prize in the drawing competition of the same name in 2018.
Alongside his artistic practice, Muñoz has developed a parallel body of work in graphic design. He worked at the Directorate-General for Communication of the European Parliament (2011–2014) and, since 2004, has been president and head of visual identity of the non-profit association Hispagenda. His design work includes posters, visual identities, publications, and editorial projects for institutions, associations, and cultural contexts.
