Elephantrees

45 × 37 cm — 2020

Animal presence and vegetal structure converge in a shared body.

An arboreal silhouette transforms into a herd of elephants in motion, only to fade back again. The work plays with the metamorphosis between the vegetal and the animal, inviting us to discover how what seems to be root can also be herd.

The tree, a symbol of memory and rootedness, merges with elephants, animals bound to collective memory and the strength of the group. This oscillation between figures that emerge and vanish reveals the fragility of perception and the interconnectedness of nature: the solid and the mobile, what remains and what migrates, blending into a single gesture. The ancient support, a canvas from 1891, adds a silent background of accumulated time, becoming a material memory that sustains and frames the evocation.

Within ARTborizations, Elephantrees resonates with the project’s central idea: the tree’s ability to branch into multiple imaginaries, to bifurcate its forms towards other beings and meanings. Here, branches turn into tusks, the trunk into rough skin, and the vegetal shadow into the trace of a herd. The work thus inscribes itself in a cartography of transformations where nature is not a boundary but a passage between what we perceive and what we intuit.
